Indian Logistics Firm Carves Niche in Customs Clearance for High Ticket
Commodities
“Unitech Uses Customs Brokerage Specialty to Wins High Profile Business”
Chennai, India, December 6, 2005 - With cargo volumes from India set to
hit double digit growth, Chennai based Aeroceanetwork member Unitech
Shipping Services is quietly carving out a niche for themselves in high
value but diverse commodities for internationally well known companies.
Unitech is getting their foot in the door on many accounts through
concentrating on superior customs brokerage services for Indian
distributors of high profile imports. Through Unitech’s customer, SPA
India, they have been handling clearance of high profile cargo Sprankel
Gemstones, a leading source of high quality cubic zirconias, synthetic
stones and marcasite, the brass colored iron ore that in its cut and
polished form is an affordable alternative to diamonds. “They bring in a
lot of quantity,” said V.N. Rajender, managing partner of Unitech
Shipping Services, “and yes, it is all insured.”
Unitech is also clearing for inbound Lladró products which is another
SPA India account. Valencia, Spain, based Lladró has become a household
name around the world for their fine porcelain figurines. Unitech is
working on a large variety of high class porcelain figurines, including
both western and Hindu designs, which SPA India imports into India for
the ever expanding numbers of middle and upper classes. The imported
values on these figurines are priced for the well to do as well. “Each
of these pieces range from around a few thousand rupees up to five lac
(USD 10,809.64),” said Rajender., “We have been handling this work for
about two years now.”
Unitech’s services don’t stop with low tech, high value. Unitech also
handles specialized, rapid customs services for an Indian based importer
for Ingram Micro Inc., the world's largest technology distributor and
the only global IT distributor with operations in Asia. “Ingram Micro
imports from Singapore where it is consolidated and forwarded. It [the
cargo] comes from Malaysia also,” says Rajender. Although Unitech is a
strong international forwarder as well, only sometimes does Unitech get
a chance to export the Ingram Micro goods, and that is only in a reverse
logistics role. “The exports they do are only rejects or outdated
computer parts which they send back to Singapore,” adds Rajender.
Based in Chennai, India, with a branch office in Cochin, Unitech
Shipping Services is a professional logistics firm with an exellent
local knowledge of the Indian market. Unitech’s managing partner, Mr.
V.N. Rajender, is a thirty plus year veteran of the frieght industry.
Aeroceanetwork is a non-exclusive network for professional logistics
companies and international freight forwarders.
